Their design input and sharing of product knowledge and site experiences were invaluable to ensure interfaces were understood between all trades… finishing on time and to a very high quality. Their onsite work ethic and teamwork was mirrored by all the offsite management. It has been a pleasure working with them.

Challenges

A20 were asked to look at cladding support solutions to deliver programme savings.

The design called for attention to detail on the large format pod window flashings and  Tecu Gold standing seams feature areas of the façades.

Fire zones and compartmentalisation were another challenge.

It was important to coordinate interface detailing with other sub-contractors.

Solutions

A2O suggested a long-spanning Eurobond Rainspan cladding support system for the steel-framed Sports Hall. The cladding was supported from the face of the panel, omitting the need for a stud framework and reducing build time. Panels were pre-finished on the inside, eliminating wet trades and decoration.

To achieve the design intent and ensure robust weathering details and interfaces with windows, A2O fabricated full-size mock-ups for the client and architect to comment on and fine-tune.

A2O worked closely with the fire barrier supplier and advisors to ensure full compliance.

Weekly Design Team Meetings were held with the main contractor, architects, structural engineers, glazers and roofers for full coordination and interface detailing.
